Press Release: North Township Trustee Honors Community Health Centers

MERRILLVILLE, IN – North Township Trustee Frank J. Mrvan will issue a proclamation celebrating National Health Center Week (NHCW) on August 6th at 11:30 AM at Regional Health Clinic’s North Hammond location (4022 Hohman Ave.). NHCW is a national campaign to increase awareness of community health centers and their role in providing affordable health care.

“Regional Health Clinic, one of five community health centers in Hammond, is part of a nationwide network of locally-run community health centers serving more than 28 million people nationwide,” said Mr. Mrvan, North Township Trustee. “Our community health center staff are on the front lines of national public health challenges—whether caring for veterans or providing opioid treatment.”

Five years ago, the North Township Trustee’s Office partnered with Regional Mental Health Center (Regional) to open the first Regional Health Clinic. The partnership aimed to address environmental and social factors that cause sickness as part of primary care. Factors impacting the North Township community include mental illness, homelessness and substance use disorders.

“We are honored that Mr. Mrvan issued this proclamation. It recognizes the important role community health centers play when we reach beyond the walls of conventional medicine to provide services that address environmental and social factors,” said Regional Health Systems CEO Bob Krumwied.

Regional Health Clinic celebrates National Health Center Week 2019 from August 5th-8th at its Hammond, East Chicago and Merrillville locations. Attendees can tour the clinic, meet Regional’s patient care teams, and receive free health screenings and much more. For more information about the events, please visit regionalhealthclinic.org.
